Privacy Policy

MycoSnap (listed as “Mushroom Identifier: MycoSnap”) helps you photograph, identify, learn about and organize mushrooms. Most collection data is stored on your device. When you request identification, the image you select is sent to OpenAI so the app can return a possible match. The free version may also show advertising supplied by Google AdMob.

1. Information MycoSnap handles

Depending on the features you use, MycoSnap may handle:

• Mushroom photos: images you capture with the camera or select from your photo library.
• Collection data: saved mushroom images, identification results, collection names and related details.
• Preferences: language, onboarding state, haptics, auto-save and premium status.
• Purchase information: Apple and RevenueCat may provide product identifiers, transaction and entitlement status, renewal or expiration dates and an anonymous app-user identifier. MycoSnap does not receive your complete payment-card details.
• Advertising data: when ads are enabled, Google AdMob may receive an advertising identifier, IP address, coarse location derived from that address, device and app information and records of ad views or interactions.
• Analytics and diagnostics: Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics may receive app interactions, device and app details, identifiers, crash logs, stack traces and diagnostic information.
• Configuration data: Firebase Remote Config receives standard request details such as IP address, app version and an app-instance identifier.
• Technical data: IP address, device or browser information, cookies and request metadata normally sent to services used for identification, advertising, configuration and legal-page hosting.
• Tracking permission: on supported Apple devices, the app may ask for permission through App Tracking Transparency. You may deny it or change the choice later in device settings.

2. How information is used

• to capture or select a mushroom image and provide an identification result;
• to display mushroom details, safety information, recipes, guides and reference maps;
• to save and manage collections locally on your device;
• to remember app preferences;
• to process purchases, restore access and determine whether Pro features are active;
• to show, measure and limit advertising in the free version;
• to load app configuration, understand use, diagnose errors and improve reliability; and
• to comply with legal obligations, prevent abuse and enforce the Terms of Use.

3. Camera, photo library and local storage

Camera and photo-library access is used only when you choose a feature that needs it. Saved photos, identification reports, collection records and preferences are stored locally unless the app clearly explains otherwise. You can control camera and photo permissions in device settings. Deleting a saved item, clearing app data or uninstalling MycoSnap may remove local data, subject to your device's backup behaviour.

4. OpenAI and image processing

When you start an identification, MycoSnap prepares and uploads the chosen image to OpenAI. OpenAI may process the image, IP address, device information and related request data under its Privacy Policy. Do not submit an image containing a person, document, precise location or other information you do not want sent to OpenAI. OpenAI's service and its results are independent of MycoSnap. Before the first identification, the app presents an image-processing disclosure that you may decline.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store, while RevenueCat validates transactions, restores purchases and synchronizes Pro entitlement status. Apple and RevenueCat process purchase and device information under their own privacy terms. They do not give MycoSnap your complete card number.

6. Advertising

The free version may display Google AdMob advertising, including banner, native, interstitial and app-open formats. Google processes advertising data under its own terms, including the Google Privacy & Terms for partner sites. Tracking permission and regional consent choices may affect personalization. Non-personalized ads still use limited signals such as approximate location and app context. An active Pro subscription removes advertising and stops those ad requests.

7. Firebase services

MycoSnap may use Firebase Remote Config, Analytics and Crashlytics for app settings, usage measurement and reliability. No mushroom photo or local collection record is intentionally sent to Remote Config, Analytics or Crashlytics. Google processes the technical information those services receive under its own privacy terms.

8. Maps, sharing and third-party services

Reference coordinates may be shown on an Apple map and can be opened in Apple Maps when you request navigation. They describe a reference location, not your device's precise location. When you use a share control, the app sends the content to the destination you choose. Apple Maps, sharing targets and other third-party services apply their own terms and privacy practices.

9. Sharing and sale of information

MycoSnap does not sell mushroom photos or collection records. Information may be disclosed to the service providers described above when needed to deliver a requested feature, comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse or complete a business transfer. Some privacy laws may define advertising activity as “sharing” or targeted advertising.

10. Retention and deletion

Local information remains on your device until you delete it, clear app storage or uninstall MycoSnap. Third parties retain information according to their own policies. You can use the app's delete controls to remove individual mushrooms and collections stored locally.

11. Security and international processing

Reasonable safeguards are used, but no device, transmission or storage method is completely secure. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, where data-protection laws may differ.

12. Children's privacy

MycoSnap is not directed to children under 13 or the higher minimum age required by local law, and personal information from children is not knowingly collected. A parent or guardian with a concern should contact us.

13. Your choices

• Camera and photos: grant or revoke access in device settings.
• Tracking and advertising: update tracking permission or advertising choices in device settings where available.
• Advertising as a whole: activate Pro to remove ads.
• Collections: delete saved mushrooms or collections in the app, or uninstall the app to remove all local data.
• Subscriptions: manage or cancel them in your Apple ID subscription settings.

14. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as MycoSnap, its providers or legal requirements change. The effective date will be revised when an update is posted.
