PlantSnap Legal

Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 27, 2026

PlantSnap helps you photograph, identify, learn about, organize and care for plants. Your collections, scan history and garden are stored on your device. When you request identification, the image you select is sent to Google's image-recognition service so the app can return a possible match. The free version may also show advertising supplied by Google AdMob.

1. Information PlantSnap handles

Depending on the features you use, PlantSnap may handle:

2. How information is used

3. Camera, photo library and local storage

Camera and photo-library access is used only when you choose a feature that needs it. Saved photos, identification results, collections, scan history, garden plants and preferences are stored locally on your device. PlantSnap has no user accounts and does not upload your collections to its own servers. You can control camera and photo permissions in device settings. Deleting a saved item, clearing app data or uninstalling PlantSnap may remove local data, subject to your device's backup behaviour.

4. Plant identification and image processing

When you start an identification, PlantSnap prepares and uploads the chosen image to Google's image-recognition service (Google Lens). Google may process the image, IP address, device information, cookies and related request data under the Google Privacy Policy. PlantSnap then organizes the returned information into a result on your device. Do not submit an image containing a person, document, precise location or other information you do not want sent to Google. Identification results are automated estimates and may be wrong.

5. Watering reminders and notifications

If you turn on watering reminders for a plant in your garden, PlantSnap schedules local notifications on your device. These reminders are created and delivered by your device's operating system; no reminder content is sent to a PlantSnap server. You can turn reminders off in the app or disable notifications in device settings at any time.

6. Purchases and subscriptions

Where PlantSnap offers a Pro subscription, purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple processes purchase and device information under its own privacy terms and does not give PlantSnap your complete card number.

7. Advertising

The free version may display Google AdMob advertising, including native, interstitial and app-open formats. Google processes advertising data under its own terms, including How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services. Tracking permission and regional consent choices may affect personalization. Non-personalized ads still use limited signals such as approximate location and app context. An active Pro subscription removes advertising and stops those ad requests.

8. Firebase services

PlantSnap may use Firebase Remote Config, Analytics and Crashlytics for app settings, usage measurement and reliability. No plant photo, collection record or garden entry is intentionally sent to Remote Config, Analytics or Crashlytics. Google processes the technical information those services receive under its own privacy terms.

9. Sharing and third-party services

When you use a share control, the app sends the content you selected to the destination you choose. Links you open, such as this policy, open in your browser or an in-app web view. Sharing targets, websites and other third-party services apply their own terms and privacy practices.

10. Sharing and sale of information

PlantSnap does not sell plant photos, collection records or garden data. Information may be disclosed to the service providers described above when needed to deliver a requested feature, comply with law, protect rights and safety, investigate abuse or complete a business transfer. Some privacy laws may define advertising activity as “sharing” or targeted advertising.

11. Retention and deletion

Local information remains on your device until you delete it, clear app storage or uninstall PlantSnap. Third parties retain information according to their own policies. You can use the app's delete controls to remove individual scans, collections and garden plants stored locally.

12. Security and international processing

Reasonable safeguards are used, but no device, transmission or storage method is completely secure. Service providers may process information in countries other than your own, where data-protection laws may differ.

13. Children's privacy

PlantSnap is not directed to children under 13 or the higher minimum age required by local law, and personal information from children is not knowingly collected. A parent or guardian with a concern should contact us.

14. Your choices

15. Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as PlantSnap, its providers or legal requirements change. The effective date will be revised when an update is posted.
