Privacy Policy

StarSnap · Last Updated August 30, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how the StarSnap developer (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use StarSnap (the “App”).

The App sends photos selected for identification to Google Lens, a third-party online service. Do not submit a photo containing information you do not want sent to Google.

2. Information handled by the App

Photos and camera input

You may photograph a card with the in-app camera or choose an image from your photo library. The camera asks for the front of the card and, optionally, the back; you can skip the back. The App crops and resizes what you capture, joins the two sides into a single image where both were taken, and sends that image to Google Lens to provide the identification feature. Card photos can contain names, autographs, serial numbers, or background details. Crop out information you do not want transmitted.

Scan content and results

The App processes the query associated with a scan and the results returned for that scan. If auto-save is enabled or you save manually, the App stores the photo copy, result details, time, and collection assignment locally on your device.

Collections and preferences

Collection names, saved scans, language, onboarding state, haptics choice, auto-save choice, scan count, and related preferences are stored locally using Hive and SharedPreferences.

Technical, analytics, and diagnostic data

When the App contacts Google Lens, Google may receive the image, query, IP address, user-agent information, cookies, and ordinary request metadata. If Firebase is configured in the production build, Firebase Analytics processes fixed app-interaction events (such as screens, workflow stages, tab selections, plan selections, and setting states), and Firebase Crashlytics processes crash reports, stack traces, app/device information, and related diagnostics. The App does not attach photos, scan results, identified names, collection names, URLs, or free-form text to these events. Google’s handling, retention, and international transfer of that data are governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information.

3. How information is used

4. Legal bases

Where data-protection law requires a legal basis, processing may rely on your request to perform the service, consent for optional photo access, legitimate interests in operating and securing the App, and compliance with legal obligations. The bases relied on may differ by launch territory.

5. Sharing and disclosure

We disclose scan inputs to Google Lens to perform identification. If Firebase is configured, we disclose app-interaction and diagnostic data to Google Firebase for analytics, stability monitoring, and crash reporting. We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect rights and safety, or in a corporate transaction subject to appropriate safeguards. The App contains no advertising, attribution, authentication, or social-network SDK.

6. Storage and retention

Saved scans and collection information remain on the device until you delete a scan or collection, use “Clear saved scans,” uninstall the App, or the App evicts older history beyond its 200-record limit. Operating-system backups may preserve app data according to your device settings. Google controls how long it retains data it receives; its retention terms are set out in Google’s own privacy documentation.

7. Your choices and rights

Because the reviewed App has no account or developer-operated cloud profile, we may be unable to identify or retrieve local-only data.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures. Images and requests are sent over HTTPS with standard certificate validation. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

9. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in their country), and we do not knowingly seek personal information from children. A parent or guardian who believes a child submitted personal information should contact us.

10. International transfers

Google may process data in countries other than your own. Those transfers are governed by the safeguards Google describes in its privacy documentation.

11. Safety and automated results

Identification, condition, grading, authenticity, and value results are estimates only—not professional appraisals or offers to buy or sell. Never make a purchase, sale, insurance, or grading decision solely from an automated result. Confirm high-value items with a qualified expert.

12. Changes

We may update this policy. We will update the “Last Updated” date and provide additional notice where required.
